Subspecialty training
The Department of Pediatrics offers a full spectrum of subspecialty experiences designed to supplement the training of general pediatricians and satisfy the interests of those planning a subspecialty career. Residents may elect rotations on any subspecialty service where they will work closely with faculty in both the outpatient and inpatient setting.
Depending on the subspecialty, residents will train at the Children's Hospital or other sites in the community, such as Mercy, Sutter, and Kaiser Hospitals in Sacramento, or distant outlying clinics elsewhere in Northern California or Western Nevada. In addition to electives, residents gain subspecialty experience during the in-patient ward, ambulatory clinic, Shriners Hospital, and hematology/oncology rotations.
