Discharge from the Children's Hospital
When your child is ready to go home, you will be given medications and supplies your child needs. If special follow-up home treatments are required, a nurse will show you how to perform them. Please ask questions if you do not understand something.
Children commonly are cranky and unsettled for a while after leaving the hospital. Try to be patient and to resume your ordinary routine. Your child may just need some time to work through the experience, especially if the hospital stay was long or the surgery difficult. Encourage your child to talk about what has happened or to “play hospital.” Young children often can resolve their feelings about real-life experiences by playing make-believe games.
