Comparison of forked flaps vs. V to Y advancement for increased nasal tip projection
Doctors at UC Davis Children's Hospital are conducting ongoing studies that look at methods to increase projection of the tip of the nose in children with bilateral cleft lips. They are comparing the traditional forked flap advancement against a new procedure developed at UC Davis called "V to Y advancement." Preliminary findings indicate that while both techniques provide adequate nasal projection, the forked flap procedure results in more visible scars.
