Prerequisites

In order to be accepted into the following classes, college transcripts or proof of passing the UC Davis Health System challenge exams must accompany your registration form. If one or the other does not accompany your registration form, the form will be returned to you.

Challenge Exam Registration Form 



Medical Terminology
No prerequisite required

Introduction to computer applications (instructor-led)
No prerequisite required

Prerequisite for anatomy and physiology
1.  Successful completion of a Medical Terminology Class or pass the Challenge Exam
2.  Internet access and an e-mail address for on-line class 
 
Prerequisites for basic coding (ICD-9-CM or CPT)
1.   Successful completion of a Medical Terminology Class or pass the Challenge Exam
2.   Successful completion of a college level Anatomy & Physiology class or pass the Challenge Exam
3.   Internet access and an e-mail address for on-line class

Prerequisites for intermediate coding
1.  Successful completion of a Medical Terminology Class or pass the Challenge Exam
2.  Successful completion of a college level Anatomy & Physiology class or pass the Challenge Exam
3.  Successful completion of Basic CPT and ICD-9-CM or pass the Challenge Exam 
4.  Internet access and an e-mail address for on-line class

Prerequisites for coding proficiency for the CCS-P exam
1.   Successful completion of a Medical Terminology Class or pass the Challenge Exam
2.   Successful completion of a college level Anatomy & Physiology class or pass the Challenge Exam
4.   Successful completion of a Basic Coding Class or pass the Challenge Exam
5.   Internet access and an e-mail address for on-line class

Prerequisites for In-patient coding
1.  Successful completion of a Medical Terminology Class or pass the Challenge Exam
2.  Successful completion of a college level Anatomy & Physiology class or pass the Challenge Exam
3.  Successful completion of a Basic CPT Coding class or pass the Challenge Exam
4.  Successful completion of a Basic ICD-9 Coding class or pass the Challenge Exam
5.  Completed a coding internship or currently hold a coding position
6.  Successful completion of a class in Computer Applications with a typing speed of 40 words per minutes      or  pass the Challenge Exam
6.  Passing grade on UC Davis Health System's Patient Records Abstractor III assessment exam
