The UC Davis Comprehensive Cancer Center offers Genetic Counseling for individuals who are concerned about their personal and/or family history of cancer. A detailed medical and family history is obtained to assess an individual's personal risk of developing cancer and to determine whether genetic testing is appropriate. All aspects of genetic testing for hereditary cancer are discussed, including the benefits, limitations, medical implications of the results, medical management options, possible psychosocial concerns, and impact on other family members. Insurance coverage and privacy issues are also addressed.
All of our Genetic Counselors have a graduate degree, are Nationally Board Certified, and are Licensed by the State of California. They work as members of a health care team, providing information and support to families.
