Cancer Etiology, Prevention, and Control
Leader: James S. Felton, Ph.D.
Co-Leader: Moon Chen, Ph.D.
The Cancer Etiology, Prevention, and Control Program's goal is to initiate, foster, and conduct basic and applied research in the etiology, surveillance, prevention, and control of cancer and its risk factors that, independently or in combination with biomedical approaches, reduces cancer risk, incidence, morbidity, and mortality. In etiology, this Program emphasizes basic and molecular research into the causation of dietary carcinogens. In surveillance, this Program builds partnerships with the California Cancer Registry. In prevention, this Program is involved in the discovery of chemopreventive agents as well as in the development and delivery of primary and secondary prevention efforts to reduce exposure to cancer causing agents. In cancer control, this Program focuses on reducing cancer health disparities.
