The Cancer Imaging Program is a comprehensive research program which includes the development of novel imaging systems and protocols tailored for oncologic imaging in the mouse, the veterinary patient (primarily dogs and cats), and in humans. The broad base of research which is encompassed in this program includes the development of imaging hardware by physical scientists such as unique PET and CT scanners, the development of biomarkers tailored for site-specific cancers by chemists and molecular biologists, and the clinical evaluation of tumor therapeutic regimes in the mouse, dog, and human. The structure of the Cancer Imaging Program is designed to promote the clinical translation of promising diagnostic and therapy techniques. This program also integrates the development of quantitative imaging practices which will lead to more accurate assessment of therapeutic response, and promotes research and translation of image guided cancer interventional techniques.
