Microtrials

Microtrials are pilot/feasibility trials with a limited patient sample size (five to 10 patients). To apply for funding, you must be a current CCSG member.

Eligible trials must include one of the following four areas of emphasis:

  • Promising new anti-neoplastic agents developed at UC Davis
  • Established agents being repurposed for anti-cancer applications
  • Limited biomarker (pharmacodynamics) or pharmacokinetic assessments of anti-cancer therapies
  • Novel imaging modalities

Only strategies that have sufficient rationale generated from pre-clinical work performed at UC Davis will qualify for Matrix metalloproteinases (MMP) inclusion. The most promising concepts are then prioritized for MMP inclusion by Drs. Kelly and Lara during their monthly meeting. It is expected that the MMP will have up to four microtrial slots open for accrual at any one time, and that new microtrial arms can be activated as slots become available.

This funding opportunity pairs investigator provided funding with Cancer Center effort support. Effort support is provided from the Early Phase Clinical Research Support (EPCRS) program to help cover costs for protocol development and regulatory processing (including IRB submission). The applicant must include a source for matching funds at the time of application submission. It is important to note that this effort funding is provided by the CCSG and is limited.
