CCSG Developmental Awards
CCSG Developmental Awards are intended to foster new collaborative studies in any one of the scientific program areas of the UC Davis Cancer Center:
Proposals that are "inter-programmatic" are also suitable. While not a requirement, proponents should carefully consider utilization of one or more of the Cancer Center's six shared resources. If you have questions about your proposal's relevance to a scientific program or about appropriate use of shared resources, you are strongly urged to contact program leaders and/or shared resource directors and staff. Administrative questions should be directed to Joel Kugelmass, Cancer Center analyst, at (916) 734-5818.
Funding
Funds for this program are provided intramurally by the UC Davis Cancer Center using its Cancer Center Support Grant (P30) and, on occasion, internal research accounts controlled by the Cancer Center and/or the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory. Up to four awards of $30,000 each will be made annually.
Eligibility
Any UC Davis Cancer Center member or pending member of the Cancer Center with principal investigator status at UC Davis or at the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory is welcome to apply. Both senior and junior-level faculty, adjunct appointees, those in the research series, etc., may submit an application. Membership in a scientific program is not required and a member of one scientific program may apply for a study in another scientific area. Assistant-level applicants should identify a mentor.
Review criteria
Proposals that are favorably reviewed will have the following characteristics in addition to excellent to outstanding scientific merit:
- clear relevance to one or more Cancer Center scientific programs
- utilization of one or more of the center's shared resources, if appropriate
- collaborations among two or more Cancer Center members
- the anticipated results are likely to lead to peer-reviewed scientific publications and significant, peer-reviewed extramural funding
- the proposed budget and project period are realistic and appropriate
Award decisions are made by a review committee established by the Cancer Center.
Submission
A one-page preliminary inquiry is required. Instructions accompany the application. Proposals are submitted electronically (via e-mail) as attachments sent to
cancer.center@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu. Files need to be in MS Word or Rich Text Format and should open properly in Windows. Proposals should generally adhere to PHS 398 guidelines for type size, margins and other formatting issues. Do not use the PHS 398 application; you must use the Cancer Center's Developmental Award application form. The application is designed to "expand" if longer narrative material is inserted. Processing by Sponsored Programs or the Office of Research prior to submission is not required. Awardees will sign an award acceptance form and commit to submission of a progress report. The next call for proposals will be issued in March, 2008. Write to
cancer.center@ucdmc.ucdavis.edu to receive an application when it is issued.
