Kiwanis Family House

Pediatric patients and their families, who often travel long distances to receive treatment may be eligible for low-cost lodging near the Cancer Center in the Kiwanis Family House. The Kiwanis Family House is located on the grounds of the Sacramento campus and offers inexpensive family accommodations with individual bedrooms, kitchen facilities, bathrooms, laundry, pay phone, and hook-ups for recreational vehicles. Kiwanis Clubs from around the Sacramento region provide financial support and volunteer staff for the facility.

Residency in the Kiwanis Family House is determined by the Department of Clinical Social Services and is by referral only. Families of patients at UC Davis Health System and Shriner's Hospital, Sacramento, please call Social Services 916-734-2234 for a referral.

Ronald McDonald House
2555 49th Street, Sacramento

Ronald McDonald House is a ‘home away from home’ for families who must travel at least 30 miles to seek medical treatment for their child. The Sacramento Ronald McDonald House is a 38-room facility. There are 36 single bedrooms and 2 two-bedroom apartments. Family members have their own bedrooms and bathrooms and share common kitchens, living and laundry facilities. Additionally, there are special rooms set up with toys, computers and video game consoles for the children. The House offers parents and family members of seriously ill and injured children a refuge from the hospital room. Families are asked for a $20 donation per night, although no family is ever turned away due to the inability to pay.

The Sharing Place

The Sharing Place hospitality house provides lodging for out-of-town pediatric and adult cancer patients and their families, as well as other families whose loved ones are receiving medical treatment at any Sacramento hospital.

Outpatients must be able to independently perform daily activities and are encouraged to have a support person with them, if possible. Patients and/or families who reside approximately 50 miles outside of Sacramento may make reservations through their doctor's office, the hospital social work department or other hospital staff. Reservations are not accepted without a referral.

The home has 15 private bedrooms with private baths and telephones. Community rooms include a living room with fireplace, family room with TV/VCR, kitchen, dining room, laundry room and a well-stocked playroom. A quiet courtyard, playground and three RV spaces are also available. Guests prepare their own meals and maintain their bedrooms during their stay. The atmosphere is supportive and restful.

The Sharing Place has a minimal per night charge per room. Should guests not be able to afford these charges, optional payment arrangements may be available. The Sharing Place is not affiliated with any hospital or other agency and is funded through the Swing at Cancer Golf Tournament and other donations made to the home.
