Breast Cancer Program
The UC Davis Breast Cancer Program provides comprehensive, multidisciplinary care for patients with all stages of breast cancer. Patients receive all of their care in one location, from a team of top academic physicians.
Our team includes specialists in:
- Hematology and oncology
- Surgical oncology
- Radiation oncology
- Pathology
- Plastic and reconstructive surgery
- Diagnostic radiology/mammography
These specialists all work together to design an individual treatment plan for each patient. Treatments may include:
- Surgery — surgeries are scheduled at both the UC Davis Medical Center’s main hospital and the outpatient University Surgery Center
- Radiation therapy — state-of-the-art radiation therapy is offered in the Radiation Oncology Clinic on the ground floor of the Cancer Center
- Chemotherapy and molecular targeted agents — a new generation of medications
Our multidisciplinary team also includes social workers, dietitians, genetic counselors and pain medicine specialists.
The most advanced treatments
The close collaboration between our doctors and our research scientists means that new drugs and treatments developed in the laboratory can quickly move to the clinic, offering our patients immediate access to the latest therapies.
For example, our surgeons were among the first in the country to pioneer a treatment known as non-surgical lumpectomy, or radiofrequency ablation. This investigational treatment employs heat to destroy small, early stage breast cancers. Our scientists are also developing a new CT breast-imaging machine that could become an alternative to standard mammography.
Our clinical trials program, one of the largest in the country, also offers our patients access to the newest drugs and pioneering therapies, before they become widely available.
Treating the whole patient
The UC Davis Breast Cancer Program is dedicated to caring for the whole patient. We offer:
- New patient orientations specifically for breast cancer patients
- "Look Good... Feel Better," an American Cancer Society workshop
- Psychosocial counseling
- Patient education classes, lectures and newsletter
- A Cancer Resource Center
