Breast Imaging Center of Excellence - American College of RadiologyAsymptomatic normal-risk women can be screened for breast cancer with standard 2-D mammography. 3-D mammography (tomosynthesis) also is offered. Those at high risk for breast cancer may also undergo screening breast MR (magnetic resonance).

For diagnosis of breast abnormalities in symptomatic patients or patients having abnormal screening studies, the Breast Health Center offers tailored diagnostic mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MR, sonographically guided, stereotactic and MR-guided breast biopsy, as well as localization of occult lesions in preparation for surgical removal.

Opportunities to participate in research studies in breast imaging, including protocols examining dedicated breast CT and tomosynthesis, are also available to eligible patients.

genetic counselingPatients who choose UC Davis for their breast health services may be referred for a breast cancer risk assessment with a genetic counselor. Genetic counselors see patients with a family history of breast cancer and/or personal history of other cancers.

The genetic counselor will review the patient's health and family history of cancer to determine whether there is an elevated risk of cancer and if genetic testing for hereditary cancer is indicated. The genetic counselor will discuss the implications of test results and medical management options and provide ongoing support.

Our genetic counselors have graduate-level training in medical genetics and are an integral part of the Breast Health Center team.
