Triumph Fitness Program for Cancer Survivors

"Lance Armstrong was an absolute motivator to me in moving forward after my cancer diagnosis, and not just in resuming life, but in grabbing it by the horns and enjoying the ride. It is very gratifying to know that through the Triumph Fitness Program for Cancer Survivors, I am helping to make the cancer journey easier for others."
-- Pam Whitehead

Triumph is a 10-week strength-and-fitness program for people who have recently completed cancer treatment. The program was originally made possible by an award from the Lance Armstrong Foundation to Pam Whitehead, a Sacramento architect and cancer survivor. The program continues to operate thanks to Pam's fundraising efforts in the Sacramento area.

Participants build muscle mass and strength, increase flexibility and endurance, and improve their capacity to perform activities of daily living, from work to play. Triumph may also help to reduce the severity of cancer side effects, prevent unwanted weight changes and improve participants' energy levels and self-esteem. A final goal is to help participants develop their own physical fitness regimens so that they can continue to triumph after completing the program.

Classes are held twice a week during the day at Savvy Fitness  in Folsom and at 15th Street Fitness in West Sacramento. Certified instructors provide personal, small-group instruction. There is no cost to participants.
