Family Therapy Program
Together with individual therapy and group therapy, children can be seen in family therapy with their parents and/or caregivers (e.g. foster parents, legal guardians) in order to increase and improve communication within the family. In many cases, children's concerns are best addressed in a family context with parents and siblings. There are multiple theoretical family approaches that have been found to be effective for addressing child abuse and family concerns such as Strategic, Structural, and Narrative Therapy. Family therapy has been used in conjunction with Individual therapy in order to provide alternative ways to intervene and interact with a child. Most family sessions are conducted weekly for one hour. Treatment goals and issues of therapy rules within family sessions are addressed at the beginning along with expectations and timelines for treatment. Generally, family therapy sessions are conducted between 16 to 32 sessions, depending upon the goals identified.
