Psychosocial Services
A staff of social workers, including a Licensed Clinical Social Worker, case manager, and graduate student interns provide psychosocial services for children at the CAARE Center. These services are for children and families referred for physical abuse, neglect, and sexual abuse medical/evidentiary examinations. The services provided include:
- Telephone call assessments, triage, and referrals
- Psychosocial intakes before medical examinations
- Forensic interviews of children
- Crisis counseling for children and families
- Comprehensive services for adolescent rape trauma victims
- Suicidal assessments, "5150 holds" (danger to self and others) and coordination with law enforcement
- Patient advocacy and liaison to CAARE Center medical team
- Case coordination and liaison to UC Davis Medical Center Social Service Department, law enforcement agencies, Children's Protective Services (CPS), and other community agencies
- Referrals to CAARE Center mental health services
- Case-management including coordination of weekly multi-agency case review meeting. The SCAN (Suspected Child Abuse and Neglect) Team was established at UC Davis Medical Center in 1976 and meets weekly with the Sacramento County Sheriffs Department, Sacramento Police Department, CPS, Multi-Disciplinary Interview Center (MDIC), and public health nurses.
- Referrals to other agencies and services as needed
- Assistance and referral to Sacramento County Victim Witness Assistance Centers and the California State Victim Compensation Program
