Mission

The CAARE Diagnostic and Treatment Center's mission is to provide medical and mental health services for abused and neglected children, and training and research on all forms of interpersonal violence.

Goals

To advocate for the medical, mental health, and developmental needs of abused and neglected children and the provision of effective intervention on their behalf.
  • To protect children from abuse and neglect through the provision of effective tertiary medical and mental health services, and coordination with investigative agencies
  • To keep the health and mental health needs of abused and neglected children at the forefront of policy formation at every level, and to promote the development of comprehensive case planning for children
  • To establish and to advance standards of practice by providing training on the provision of medical and mental health services for abused and neglected children at the state, national, and international level
  • To expand knowledge, improve practice standards, and develop cutting edge multidisciplinary intervention strategies for children through research and publication in peer review journals
  • To provide interdisciplinary training and research on all forms of interpersonal violence with an inclusive focus on persons with disabilities
  • To implement primary prevention strategies to effect social change with a message that children have the right to live lives free from abuse and neglect, and that a healthy childhood experience is to be valued and protected by all
  • To foster the development of primary and secondary prevention strategies and tertiary intervention services to respond to all forms of interpersonal violence.

Organizational Home

The CAARE Center is one of 14 sections in the Department of Pediatrics, UC Davis Children's Hospital and has 80 full and part-time employees. The CAARE Center is funded through contracts, grants, fee-for-service patient care revenue, charitable events, and the United Way Employee Giving Program.
