BIRCS is currently engaged in a variety of active projects ranging from funded research endeavors to deliverables-based contracts with state and federal agencies.

The UC Davis/VA General Clinical Research Center provides an encompassing infrastructure that facilitates patient-oriented clinical research and promotes mentoring of clinical investigators. One of the main tasks for Focus Area E is to provide a health alert network and methods for emergency communication in the event of emergency situtations. FAE critical capabilities include "linking public health and private partners to facilitate exchange of key data, emergency communications, including redudant systems, protect critical data and information systems, secure electronic data exchange."
