Roberta Springer Loewy, Ph.D. (Phil) is an Associate Clinical Professor in the Bioethics Program at the University of California, Davis. Having originally trained and practiced as a Critical-Care Nurse (1966-82), she has since earned a B.A. in Liberal Arts from Skidmore College (1981), an M.A. in Philosophy with an emphasis in Health Care Ethics (1992) and a PhD in Philosophy and Ethics (1997) from Loyola University, Chicago. She has taught Bioethics in a number of settings and authored, co-authored and edited a number of books, articles and book chapters dealing with issues at the end of life, hospice, social justice, the nature of personhood and the relationship between persons and society.

Having just finished assisting Dr. Erich Loewy with the revisions for the 2nd edition of Textbook of Healthcare Ethics, she has begun work on a text for laypersons concerning the ethics and logic of decision-making, especially as it pertains to the healthcare setting.
