Research Interests

My research interests include design and analysis of genetic association studies for complex diseases, survival analysis, and modeling missing data and measurement error problems. As complete genome sequencing offers a comprehensive approach to test all human genetic variation for association to complex diseases, it is important to develop cost-efficient designs and novel analysis method for large-scale high-dimensional SNP association studies. We have employed multi-stage designs that use a pooled DNA approach in early stages, and proposed an odds ratio approach to relating SNP allele frequency to disease risk using pooled DNA, in conjunction with a simple empirical variance estimator. The proposed design and analysis methods can allow high-throughput genome-wide SNP association studies to be conducted at affordable costs, with reasonable sensitivity and few false positives. Currently, I am also interested in methods for admixture mapping, gene and gene and gene and environment interactions.
