Conferences and lecture series
As part of the department's educational mission, four hours of formal lectures are offered weekly, utilizing a variety of approaches and methodologies. The principles of practice management and quality assurance issues comprise a unique aspect of the core curriculum. Quarterly research conferences, monthly mock oral examinations conducted by ABA examiners, visiting professors, and case conferences presented by residents provide attendees with a through review of the field of anesthesiology.
Resident seminars
Monday afternoons, 4:00 p.m. - 4:50 p.m.

The Monday afternoon seminar series has been designed to present information on the principles and practices of anesthesiology. Topics are drawn from the ACGME curriculum requirements as well as the results of the annual In-Training Examination and the biannual Anesthesia Knowledge Test.
Senior resident mock orals
4th Mondays, 5:00 p.m. - 5:50 p.m.

Grand rounds
Tuesday mornings, 6:45 a.m. - 7:45 a.m.
The Department of Anesthesiology and Pain Medicine holds Grand Rounds every Tuesday morning. As part of their training, senior residents, working with a faculty member, present on a topic of their choice.

Cardiovascular and thoracic anesthesiology journal club
The cardiovascular and thoracic anesthesiology section holds journal club every other month at an off site location. Articles are selected by the members of the section and are circulated prior to the event.
Visiting professor program
The Visiting Professor Program was established to in 1999. Professors with an expertise in their fields are invited to deliver a lecture to residents, fellows and faculty members. The lecture grants our residents, fellows and faculty members the opportunity to experience different approaches and techniques in the field of anesthesiology.
