Mission
The University of California, Davis, Medical Center has recently been awarded an AIDS Clinical Trials Unit (ACTU), part of the International AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), which is sponsored by the National Institutes of Health, Division of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, Division of AIDS. The ACTG is currently made up of more than 30 individual ACTU's across the United States and Puerto Rico and is actively recruiting/establishing international sites in Europe, South America, and the Far East. It is the largest HIV/AIDS clinical trials research organization in the world. The ACTG is made up of both clinical and basic science research sites with a common goal: improving the treatment and care of those living with HIV.
The ACTU at UC, Davis, Medical Center is headed by Dr. Richard B. Pollard. Dr. Pollard comes to UC Davis bringing a wealth of experience, having run an extremely successful ACTU at the University of Texas in Galveston, and with over 20 years experience in studying and treating HIV disease in over 10,000 patients. The UC, Davis, ACTU is staffed with internationally known Infectious Disease physicians who specialize in treating HIV, physician assistants, research nurses, scientists, pharmacists, and other clinical and research personnel.
